🔮 Astrology & <JavaScript/> Series: S2 EP1 Recap

Introduction
A screenshot from a previously live stream of a woman coding in VSCode, working on a project called “moon-cycle-bot.” The code displayed is from moon_sign.js using Swiss Ephemeris to calculate the Moon’s zodiac sign based on current date and time. The bottom banner reads: “Astrology & JavaScript Series,” with branding and links to social media and the presenter’s website.

I Introduce myself as host of the series, Senior Software Engineer and Astrologer. I explained how the series came about and the unfinished knowledge base I built last year using React, Remix, and Styled Components. It desperately needs to be updated.

A landing page for “Astrology & JavaScript Series” weekly livestream presented by Celestial Doses. The page features pastel colors and large playful buttons labeled: Signs, Planets, Houses, Aspects, Critical Angles (AC/DC/MC/IC), and Natal Chart. Livestreams occur every Wednesday at 1 PM EST / 10 AM PST, and are broadcast on Twitch, X, and LinkedIn.
< 1 year Career Journey

Since pausing the series last year due to burn out, I’ve been laid off, accepted into Big Tech, then realized it was not where I wanted to be to returning to start ups after realizing my values align best with smaller companies, all during this unstable job market.

A stylized career timeline titled "< 1 YEAR TIMELINE" showing a path from July 2024 to May 2025. It includes the following events: July 2024: Burnout begins, voluntary unpaid break. August 2024: First time laid off after nearly 6 years at Salesloft, during their 5th layoff. September 2024: Big tech accepts me—previous interview leads to new role. April 2025: End of corporate journey with a mutual separation agreement. May 2025: Return to startups and creativity—intent to share experience and learnings. Each event is color-coded and connected by a curved line to show progression.
Moon Cycle BlueSky Bot

We went over the simple bot I built that posts to BlueSky:
🌔 Pulls moon phase data from U.S. Naval Observatory
♒ Pulls zodiac sign information from swisseph node package
🌀 Posts to BlueSky using ATProtocol API
⚙️ Uses GitHub Actions to post daily automatically

🦄 What’s next?

Moon Cycle BlueSky Bot
A Bluesky social media post from @celestialdoses.bsky.social dated May 11, 2025. The post reads: “🌕 The Moon is currently in its Waxing Gibbous phase and transiting Scorpio today! What energy are you feeling? #astrology.” The Celestial Doses logo is visible in the corner.

There’s a lot of opportunity to make the bot more autonomous using an LLM and agents to assist with end-to-end process. What if a person could reply to the bot on BlueSky with their rising sign to see how the moon can affect them personally based on which house the moon is transiting?

An LLM stands for Large Language Model. It's a type of artificial intelligence model that's trained on massive amounts of text data to understand, generate, and manipulate human language.

In the context of LLMs, an agent is like a smart assistant that not only responds to prompts, but also takes actions, remembers goals, and uses tools. It’s kind of like giving ChatGPT a to-do list, internet access, and a calculator.

Finish Knowledge Base

The knowledge base separates the building blocks of Astrology into separate sections; Signs, Planets, Houses, Aspects & the Critical Angles. The purpose is to learn how to read a natal chart. I never finished the critical angles section to talk more about natal charts. The website overall could use more love, especially on the mobile side.

📢 Interested in being guest on the series?

I’m looking for engineers interested around the topic of Astrology or Human Design and Professional Astrologers and Human Design Analysts looking to share what they do and their services. Below you can see previous recorded livestreams I’ve done in the past with featured guests.

Engineering Leader: Valerie Phoenix

Headshot of guest speaker Valerie Phoenix

Valerie was my first guest speaker on the series. We did a fun episode on matching tech roles to each zodiac sign and why behind each role. We had a lot of fun with this one!

Professional Astrologer: Camille Michelle Grey

Camille joined me on the last episode last season to learn about the services she offers including doing a live Solar Return Reading for me.
